Patricia Polacco has done a wonderful job of introducing Jewish customs to young children while reminding other youngsters of their heritage. The story beautifully describes the adjustments young immigrant children must make when they come to this country.

"...English sounded to (Anna) like pebbles dropping into shallow water." (p. 2).

The author tells the story of a young 3rd generation Russian-American girl, describing her family, their cultural heritage and the traditions that allow the family to honor their past and embrace the present. The Keeping Quilt  is written for young children as an early reader or read- aloud book.
