Mission
The mission of the Block Island School Library is to provide services and materials that enable students in kindergarten through grade twelve to become proficient information users, while encouraging them to develop a love for reading that will last a lifetime.
Goals
The school librarian will develop and maintain collections which support, not only the curriculum, but also children’s intellectual and recreational interests.
Objectives
Specific objectives and activities vary according to grade and ability level. Because the Block Island School classrooms are organized with two grades in a classroom (1-2, 3-4 and 5-6, etc.), services are provided to students according to these groupings. The library curriculum includes bibliographic instruction, as well as literature appreciation. Students will be taught the appropriate use of online and electronic resources, as well as print material. Students in all grades participate in a literature appreciation program.
